Winter Handicap

The Winter Handicap race has traditionally taken place on a Tuesday in the second week in November. The Winter Handicap is a fun, individual event, which is free for all members of Horsham Joggers. The course is about 4 miles (6.4 km) and starts and finishes close to the Horsham Sports Club (Cricket Field Road).

The route is on the pavements and includes two loops, anti-clockwise, of Blackbridge Lane, Guildford Road and Hills Farm Lane. There will be marshals posted on all the junctions to help with road crossings.

The aim of the Handicap is for all members to finish around the same time. Members will be asked to provide their times taken to complete either 5k or 10k. Groups of runners with a similar pace will set off together, with the fastest runners starting in the last group. The first group will set off shortly after 7 pm.

Afterwards, please join your fellow runners and other members at the Horsham Sports Club for a social gathering where the winners of the Handicap will be presented with their awards.

Information for Participants

Registration for the event can take place on the day at the Horsham Sport Club from 6:30 pm.  However, advance registration can take place by email SokWahLee@leeholgate.co.uk.

Information required for registration:

  1. Name
  2. Pace (time taken to complete for 5k or 10k)

All runners participating in the Handicap will be allocated a group reference upon registration.  You can collect your label (confirming your group reference and approximate start time) to stick onto your running top from Horsham Sport Club on the day.  Please ensure you are ready and warmed up outside the Horsham Sports Club at least 5 minutes before your Group’s allocated start time, to be escorted to your start point by a marshal.

Volunteers

If you would like to volunteer to help with the organisation for the day, please email SokWahLee@leeholgate.co.uk.  We need time keepers, marshals on junctions, etc.

Note

The evening of the Winter Handicap is also the Horsham Joggers Awards evening.  Regardless of whether you are participating in the event, please attend the awards evening to support your fellow members.
