Marathon Training Schedule 2016

Here is the 2016 Marathon Training Schedule and race calendar which is due to commence on the 27th December 2015. Perfect time to overcome all those Christmas festivities!

Water, “nibbles” and directions will be available on the day and, where possible links to Good Run Guide will be posted on Facebook a few days before if you want to swot up! Please arrive in time for the pre-run briefing (8.50am) as the runners will leave at 9am sharp!

We are looking for help with organising these runs. Please get in touch with us at info@horshamjoggers.co.uk if you are able to help to organise one of the weekly Sunday runs starting at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre car park at 9am. If you are lucky enough to be awarded a place via the club ballot, it is conditional that you organise at least one training run. Routes and maps can be provided by hj.

Brighton Half Training Plan

This is an extended training plan designed for runners doing a spring half marathon, and who are building up to the distance from a starting point of 5-6 miles.

The plan consists of a schedule of long Sunday runs to help you build up your mileage and give you confidence over increasing distances. The long Sunday runs are about covering the distance and time on your feet. You should be at an effort level of 5-6 out of 10, and able to sustain a conversation. The schedule for Sunday runs is in the attached document, showing the distance to run each Sunday and the suggested route. All runs start and finish at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre. Follow the links to the Good Run Guide to find printable route maps.

In addition, you should ideally run twice more during the week:

• On Tuesdays, join your normal HJ group for a run
• On Thursdays, join one of the HJ “effort” sessions (eg. track, intervals or hill training) – this is the evening to push yourself a little bit outside your comfort zone.

Saturday 25 July: Horsham Joggers Support the Annual Horsham Riverside Walk

The Annual Horsham Riverside Walk is welcoming runners as well as walkers this year, and there is already a keen group of Joggers planning on running the 13 mile circuit on Saturday 25 July. It would be great to have a strong turnout by Club members to show our support for the regeneration of this valuable local resource.
The official mass start for runners is at 0945am from Horsham Rugby Club (Hammerpond Road, RH13 6PJ), with the mass start for walkers following at 10am. There will be a lot of local media there for the mass start, and it would be great to get a good group of Joggers in club vests in the official photos!
If you can’t make the 0945am start, don’t worry – you can still join in! You are welcome to run the route at any time during the day, joining at any point, for as much or as little of the route as you fancy. There will be stewards around the course until 6pm, particularly to assist with road crossings, and there are a number of refreshment stops including at Chesworth Farm and Warnham Nature Reserve.  There will also be a minibus service running throughout the day to ferry participants back to the Rugby Club car park from various points on the course.  The route will be run in a clockwise direction ie. Rugby Club – Chesworth Farm – St Mary’s – Hills Farm Road – Guildford Road – Warnham Road – Pondtail Road – North Heath Lane – Holbrook – Owlbeech – Rugby Club.
For those of you running Horsham parkrun, you don’t have to miss out on the fun!  It’s only a short jog from Horsham Park to join the Riverside Walk at Pondtail Road, and turn your parkrun into a longer more scenic route!
