Race Report - Sunday 29th January

Here is this week’s HJ race report.
Horshams Joggers were well represented at the Worthing Lido 4 mile race along the town’s seafront at the weekend. Dan Holder stormed to a great 2nd place in the race in a excellent time of 21 m 29 sec. The race was this year’s 2nd event in the West Sussex Fun Run League and the club’s 9 participants put in a fine team display which augers well for forthcoming races in the series. Elsewhere, in the Hove Parkrun 5k race, Pete O’Connell took 1st male vet 50 spot in 17m 54s followed by Val Purnell who took 2nd female vet 50 in 22m 06s. Full Results from both races:

The distance for this training session will be 15 miles and starts from Broadbridge Leisure Centre Car Park promptly at 9 am.
West Sussex Fun Runs

On Sunday February 12th there is the Valentine’s run 3.5 mile race starting at 10.00am.
Sussex Grand Prix / Challenge Trophy
=======================
The next SGP race is the Chichester Priory 10k on Sunday 5th February starting at 10.30 am from Northgate Car Park next to the Chichester Festival Theatre. As well as being part of the SGP competition it is the club’s new Challenge Trophy Race for the 10k distance (previously this was the Worthing 10k in June). Prizes will be given for the fastest male and female by age category and also overall to find the fastest runners in the club for the 10k distance.
Sussex Cross Country Running Championships - 8th January and 21st January

A small group of Horsham Joggers took on the challenge of the Sussex Cross Country Running Championships at Stanmer Park last weekend. Dan Pettitt achieved a creditable 24th place in the Under 17 Mens race, clocking 22.04 secs over the undulating 3.1 mile course. In the Senior Men 7.5 mile race Dean Angell ran strongly to finish 46th in 53min.11 sec and was followed home by Alan Pettitt (92nd place in 65min 27 sec.). Finally a quartet of Horsham Joggers ladies performed commendably well in their first ever Cross Country race, the Senior Ladies 4 miler. Jayne Waller led them home in 69th place (42min 31sec) closely followed by Helen Mallows (42min 40sec). Helen Woods took 77th place (45min 17 sec), one place ahead of Pam Warren (45min 51sec).
Following our successful day at Stanmer Park another small team from HJ have just competed in the Sussex Veteran Championships at Lancing.
Our ladies team ran a 4 mile race up to the top of the downs and back down again! Ali Gormley ( 30min 08 sec. in 9th place Vet45), Janine Littler (31-03 in 13th place Vet35) and Val Purnell (31-57 in 14th place Vet45). Our 3 ladies won a magnificent Silver Team Medal which they thoroughly deserved.
Our men ran a 5.4 mile even more challenging course ; Dean Angell (34min.41 Sec. in 9th place Vet40), Pete O’Connell (36-16 in 7th place Vet50), Jeff Colenso(41.12 in 36th place Vet40), Alan Pettitt(42-27 in 31st place Vet50) and Steve Wilson (42-28 in 10th place Vet60).
Sussex Grand Prix Results for 2011

The results for the 2011 Sussex Grand Prix have now been finalised. Horsham Joggers finished 4th overall with the Mens Open team finishing 3rd, Mens Vet team finishing 3rd, Ladies Open team finishing 4th and Ladies Vet team finishing 4th. In the individual categories Catherine Corck finished 2nd in the Ladies Senior and was 6th overall, Eileen Quinton finished 1st in the Ladies V9 and Janine Littler finished 4th in the Ladies V2 and was 10th overall. Steve Nicholl finished 2nd in the Mens Senior and was 4th overall, Mark Greet was 2nd in the Mens V1 and was 6th overall and Keith Valentine was 2nd in the V4 and was 17th overall. The prize giving evening is on Wednesday 1st Feb at the Jack and Jill pub in Clayton starting at 7.30pm.
Emma Catlow wins place in ‘Target 26.2’ Team

Horsham Jogger and busy mum, Emma Catlow, has won a competition in Runner’s World magazine for a Asics sponsored place in the Paris Marathon on 15th April. She is one of five runners who made it from 1656 applicants into Team ‘Target 26.2’.
As part of her prize package Emma is being coached by Sam Murphy and is also supported by a nutritionist and physiotherapist. In December Emma met the other contenders in London as well as being kitted out in Asics running gear in preparation for the long cold training runs.
On the day there was a top to toe Bupa Fitness Assessment as well as the all-important planning meeting to start planning the training schedule.

Learn to Run 4
=========
We’re now taking bookings for the next LtR course. If you know anyone who’d like to learn to run, but perhaps hasn’t known where to start, talk to them about joining us. As you all know, running is a great way to get fit and meet people. The course starts on February 21st with group runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
