25 Years of Twinning
2010 marks another mile stone for Horsham, they celebrate 25 years of twinning with our twin Town in Northern Germany, Lage.
The twinning started when Paul Bran, from the Brighton Road Baptist Church, took a football team from the church to Lage. From those early days, the twinning has really taken off with many school and, sporting exchanges and many life long friendships being formed.
Horsham Joggers received an invitation from the running club TG Lage back in 1988. We were invited by TG Lage to take part in their Horsterberg-lauf Half Marathon. Seven members from HJ took up the challenge and have never looked back!
The most memorable events have been the international relay runs. They are normally run over 6 days, covering around 700 Km. TG Lage invited runners from Horsham to join them in their relays to Cressier (Switzerland), St Johann (Austria), Prague (Czechoslovakia), and St. Maxient (France). The relay around Holland was a truly international event with 16 runners from Horsham, 12 from Deurne (Holland) and 4 from TG Lage . The last relay run was in 2005 when HJ, together with TG Lage, ran from Lage to Horsham to celebrate 21 years of twinning.
Over the years, HJ have travelled to Lage in many different ways; by coach, car, cycle, air and foot!
HJ have been invited to attend the Horsham and Lage’s 25 years of twinning celebrations, which will be in two parts. The official one with members of the Twinning Ass. (date TBA) and second which will be with TG lage and will take place over the week end 9th May 2010. This is the Horsterberg-lauf week end.
You can take part in either:-
• 10 km Walk,
• 10 km Run,
• ½ Marathon or full Marathon.
Or you can just sit back and enjoy the kuchen & Bier !!
