VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Gunpowder Trot, Sunday 6 November

We are hosting our West Sussex Fun Run League event, the Gunpowder Trot, on Sunday 6 November at 10am.

We need lots of fantastic HJ members to make sure the event is a success.  From baking in advance, to roles on the day of the race, there are lots of tasks to be done, and many hands make light work!

If you want to volunteer to bake and/or to help on the day, please fill in the following link:  Gunpowder Trot Volunteer Form Survey

Filling in this form ensures we collect all the information we need from you in one go, and makes it easy to contact you to follow up in due course.

Because this is a new course, we will be organising a club run before the event so that members can familiarise themselves with the course. Details will be advertised on Facebook and at club nights in due course.

Following feedback from volunteers after the Valentine’s Run last year, we will also be organising a preparatory briefing session for marshals the week before the race. We will contact volunteers in due course with details of this session.

The course is around 4.5 miles long, cross-country on public footpaths across Chesworth Farm and the Denne Park estate. Race HQ is at the Normandy Centre in Denne Road, with parking in town centre carparks. The start is accessed by foot from Denne Road, over the railway footbridge opposite the cricket club. The course is harking back to a cross-country course the club used to use some years ago.

We have chosen to move the race to this new location, because of traffic and safety concerns we were experiencing on the old course. The new route is completely off road which will make it much safer for runners and volunteers alike.

Thank you in advance for volunteering to help us with this exciting new event,

Summer Pub Run Programme 2016

Please find attached below details of the Summer 2016 pub runs: Pub Run Programme 2016 v3

The pub runs have been an absolute joy for many years. We are, as a club very lucky to have them. The runs and walks follow footpaths, bridleways, byways and permissive paths through our wonderful countryside, through woods, across fields, over hills and beside rivers and canals. The runs are usually between 6 and 7 miles. We hope to have two groups one faster than the other; both groups follow a pre-marked route on maps provided by the route organiser, we have not lost anybody yet!

The walks also have a route planned and marked on maps for a distance of 2.5 to 3.5 miles. We meet at a different pub each week. After parking at the pub we have a quick briefing about the route, then we go for a circular run or walk returning to the pub. Many of us then have a drink together in the pub, some a meal as well.

We also have our traditional Pizza night, Pie night and Barbecue night, which many enjoy after their run. This year’s runs and walks include routes over the Southdowns and the Surrey hills, through vineyards, routes along side the Wey and Arun canal and the river Adur.

Come along and join us, you really don’t know what you’re missing, trail running at its very best.

We look forward to running and walking with you all this season.

Marathon Training Schedule 2016

Here is the 2016 Marathon Training Schedule and race calendar which is due to commence on the 27th December 2015. Perfect time to overcome all those Christmas festivities!

Water, “nibbles” and directions will be available on the day and, where possible links to Good Run Guide will be posted on Facebook a few days before if you want to swot up! Please arrive in time for the pre-run briefing (8.50am) as the runners will leave at 9am sharp!

We are looking for help with organising these runs. Please get in touch with us at info@horshamjoggers.co.uk if you are able to help to organise one of the weekly Sunday runs starting at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre car park at 9am. If you are lucky enough to be awarded a place via the club ballot, it is conditional that you organise at least one training run. Routes and maps can be provided by hj.
