2005 Handicap Race

This years event was treated to clear blue skies (and sub-zero temperatures!) and the 5.2 mile event was won by new member Jo Campbell with Rebecca Jackson in second place. Thanks must go to Gordon for the organisation, Eileen for the teas & flapjacks and to the marshals for braving the conditions.

Pete Noad shares his extensive knowledge of the intricacies of handicapping with Gordon before the start, this advice helped him to a courageous last place.........

However Andy has his own entry for next year and declined the place, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Andy for all of his work in support of the club in recent years.
The 4 names out of the hat were:

Brooks Sussex Veterans Cross Country Championships Denne Park

Horsham Vets taste Gold
The hills of Denne Park were the venue for the annual Brooks Sussex Veterans Cross Country Championships on Sunday. There were 2 events on the day, with separate categories for men and ladies. Horsham Joggers had one of their best results of the season with Steve Wigmore, Pete O'Connell and Gary Thayre taking gold for the team v40, continuing Horsham's regular showing in the medals. Horsham Joggers Tony Johnson and Martin Owens both posted 40.29 and 41.51 respectively over the 5.86mile course, good times considering the tough undulating terrain.
The 3.85mile ladies event saw a good showing for the club too, with Sheila Dunne coming home 8th in the v45 and Hayley Jackson and Val Purnell posting creditable times of 33.13 and 31.00. This was another good day for the prospering local club.

Brighton 10k

A perfect sunny winter's morning in Brighton was the scene for the latest race in the Sussex Grand Prix series. The ideal racing conditions on the renowned fast course made for perfect racing conditions, borne out by Bristol and West AC's Nigel Leighton's winning time of 30:23.
In a field of 2000 Horsham Joggers contingent of 21 posted some very respectable times. Steve Wigmore was again first Horsham Jogger and 8th V40 in 34.09. Of the rest special mention must be made of Tony Johnson who came home in 39.19, continuing to improve and show impressive form. Best ladies were Lucinda Green (40.09), Moyra Jordan (6th Female 45 in 42.00) and Alison Gormley in 42.21. Horsham Joggers stalwart John Booker finished in 43.23.
